the little farm by the sea
from hygienist to healer

It all started with a little red tractor, a new farm dog, chickens and goats ... and our dream of a farm by the sea came to be.

A special place on the ocean where we could easily connect with nature, work with the land to grow our own food and create a life we can live fully in tune with our natural world.

Hi, my name is Kim! My husband Dave and I took a huge leap of faith. In 2021 we sold everything in BC, bought a travel trailer, and drove across the country to look for our magical piece of property to start a farm.

Although we both had our own businesses back on the west coast, we were willing to let go of everything on our quest for freedom.

Dave had a long haul trucking company where he worked long hours and was away from home a lot. I had a holistic dental hygiene care centre, called The Happy Hygienist which kept me busy in the city.

We were yearning for freedom but also a simple quiet life where we could be home together.

We are so grateful that we found the perfect spot to start a homestead and live a life that we don't need to escape from.

It's here in this seaside sanctuary, that I went from being the Happy Hygienist to being the Happy Homesteader.

I have been on a spiritual journey for a couple of decades now and have learned to follow my heart, even when the path seemed overwhelming or scary.

I have been through some major transitions in my life over the past few years, going from working full time in the city, to experience deep presence in the country. I went from being a full time mom to an empty nester. All these changes were challenging but ultimately I found peace.

The Birth of the Happy Hygienist

In my 25 year career as a dental hygienist, I felt honoured that people often requested to see me. They appreciated my gentle touch and experienced healing in many ways, fostering true connections with me.

Before starting the Happy Hygienist, I endured a year of "dis-ease" and feeling discouraged and restricted in my work as a hygienist.

My body was telling me it was time to create work that would fulfill my soul because I was not listening to my heart. That was the catalyst that inspired me to open my own dental hygiene office and create a sanctuary where people could come and feel truly cared for. Offering me the freedom without being restricted by the confines of the dental clinic paradigm.

This was the happiest I had ever been in my long career.

After 3 years, I suddenly felt a completely different nudge when I read these words on social media.

"If you are meant to leave, now is the time. Everything you now experience will not remain."

The words in this message felt like they were speaking directly to me. After 25 years of living with my heart wholly and fully committed to my career as a dental hygienist, something shifted inside me.

I have come to realize it is not about the actual business, it is about the people. It is about the authentic connections with others and offering healing that expands my heart.

I know now, that I don't have to be a dental hygienist to be a healing presence in this world.

In this transition of pondering and tuning into my heart, I was guided to take a Horse Guided Healing Practitioner course so I can offer a healing experience for others in nature, surrounded by the love of Mother Earth on our beautiful farm.

My horse partners have not arrived yet, but my animal partners on the farm now, also provide nurturing, grounding and healing experiences.

As I had already sensed the healing potential of my presence and  healing with touch through my work as a hygienist, I felt inspired to complete my Level I Reiki training and incorporate that into my healing business.

This, along with the IonCleanse foot bath to detox the pesticides, toxins and heavy metals that are present in our everyday living environment, is my way of serving humanity as we all continue to take each step on our healing journeys.

I've learned to listen to my heart and my body, and I am passionate about helping others to learn to trust their innate ability to heal as well.

I believe that the body is truly capable of healing itself with the right  environment, inside and out.

Sometimes all it needs is a little extra help from the right nourishment, from natural remedies and from holistic practitioners. The key is to follow our heart and trust our own intuition.

And now as I begin my work as the happy healer, I am honoured and grateful to share this seaside healing retreat with everyone who is inspired to join us.
